Why You Should Avoid SEO “Packages”

I dislike SEO “packages” for the same reason I dislike website packages — they attempt to put all websites into the same box, without considering any other factors besides the number of outputs you can get for a standardized price.

Oftentimes, that’s not in the client’s best interest.

Packages, for either SEO or web development, often appear on a sales page with three different options at different price points. With SEO, it’s often broken down into how many link per month they will build to your site, how many infographics they will produce, and then a bunch of other stuff put in the contract that you may or may not already have.

What I hate about packaged SEO is it attempts to turn low-effort, low-impact work into profit for the SEO/website company, without them analyzing what you really need. Often, there is a large amount of jargon thrown in to confuse clients further.

Where we differ from 99% of SEO companies is that we believe in diagnosing the problem before writing a prescription. In other words, doing an SEO audit first, to determine what you really need to fix your rankings, as opposed to what we want to sell you to make money.

After doing an SEO audit, only then can we tell you what we need to do to boost your rankings.

Many places sell you on the idea of “links”, without considering what types of links will actually move the needle. If a company builds 40 links a month, and they are all garbage links, is that really money well spent? Link building has to be about quality above sheer quantity. And building links is difficult without quality, in-depth content. Shitty infographics won’t cut it in 95% of cases.

SEO companies are notorious for spamming anyone with a blog to let them guest post, or include their infographic with a link back to the client site. This isn’t strategy, this is begging!

Realize that the right content and the right links can do more good than 10 months of building garbage links that will never move the needle.

These are merely a few of the reasons businesses don’t trust SEO, or label it “snake oil”. Buying SEO is not like buying a case of toilet paper at Costco. You get what you pay for, and most of the time, the cheaper you go, the less results you’ll receive.

Are you being hurt by scope of work for your projects and clients? Tired of scope creep costing your agency time and money? In this video I’m giving you 3 tips to avoid scope creep so you can increase your digital agency profit.

So many agencies put all their time and resources be generating leads and closing new business. But what they struggle with is delivery and maintaining a health profit margin. And that’s because they’re unable to hold their clients to a scope of work.

So, what is “scope creep”? Well… Scope creep is the continuous or uncontrolled growth in a project’s scope, at any point after the project begins. This can occur when the scope of a project is not properly defined, documented, or controlled.

I don’t want you to make this same mistake that I made in my agency and so many other agency owners make all the time. Here are 3 tips to help you avoid scope creep:

#1 — Define the scope of work on Day #1. Your scope of work should be clearly detailed in the proposal. A lot of agencies look at their proposal as a way to win the deal. But really, you should already have a verbal commitment before you present a proposal. This is where you clearly state expectations, timeline and deliverables.

#2 — Manage all changes with approvals and sign-offs. Literally have our clients sign-off on design and copy. That way if they want to change it down the road you have documentation of their initial approval and can explain why you must charge them for the change.

#3 — Tell the clients when they’re requesting something out of scope. Make sure there’s awareness, even when the out of scope request is a small one. Do this by creating a zero dollar change order and make them sign it as acknowledgement. That way when there’s a big out of scope request, you have trained them on your process and they won’t be surprised that there’s a charge.

Let’s face reality, scope creep is going to happen. But if you do these 3 things, you should be able to to avoid most of it because you’re prepared. You need your team to communicate with the client and be proactive about you scope creep.

SEO Mistakes to Avoid | 3 Black Hat Techniques That WILL Get You Banned from Google

Today I’m going to share with you all of my war stories about getting banned by Google. ►►Subscribe here to learn more of my secret SEO tips:
Find me on Facebook:
Read more on my blog:

These are the top SEO mistakes to avoid, and if you don’t, you’re going to get banned.

Tip #1: Avoid building links through WordPress themes.

Some people are still doing them, and they think it works.

Back in the day, I had a web hosting website. I never provided web hosting, but, I ranked number one on Google for the term web hosting.

That’s one of the most competitive terms.

Everyone’s going after it because they want affiliate commissions for HostGator, Bluehost, GoDaddy.

You name it.

Instead of creating my own themes I bought domains that had hosting in it or the term web hosting and then bought a ton of WordPress themes.

I bought all the popular WordPress themes that were already out there and got them for little to no money.

Within six months I shot off to the page of Google for the term web hosting.

Within another three months, I shot up to the first spot.

And you know what happened?

Google eventually banned the website.

When I was ranking number one, I was generating over a $100,000 a month in affiliate income.

That was great.

I didn’t even spend more than $50,000 buying a ton of these sites, and I did that over a period of six months.

So the income that I was generating was massive compared to my investment.

But I got banned.

I learned, don’t do shady link affiliate tactics.

Tip #2: Avoid expired domain names.

There was a domain named after a park, and I bought it because it was about the civil war in America and it had a bunch of EDU links.

All I did was to a take ancient domain name that had a ton of authority and change it to casino-related stuff, and, boom, I popped up in the top three spots for the key term “online casino” and “casino.”

That’s crazy, right?

Eventually, Google figured it out, got banned, lost all my money.

I stopped using those tactics because it’s not good in the long run.

If you’re not sure if you’re SEO strategy that you’re using is going to get you banned or not, leave a comment, and I’ll tell you if you should be doing more of it or less of it.

The last thing you want to do is put all this time and energy like I did and then get banned.

Think long term.

Tip #3: Avoid writing the same content over and over again.
After a while, you run out of topics to produce. So you just regurgitate the same stuff over and over again.

Instead, what you should be doing is updating your old content and changing it to 2017 to 2018 and making the tools more thorough.
Delete the old ones that no one uses anymore.

In your blog, you probably already have regurgitated content, so go into your Google Analytics, look at the one that gets the least amount of search topic, and redirect to more popular topics.

Combine the content, make it more thorough, you have less duplicate content and take all your old material that’s bad and no one’s reading anymore, and delete it.

When you do that, you’re going to get way more traffic, you’re not going to get penalized, and it’s going to grow quarter over quarter continually.

Avoid these three SEO mistakes and in the long run when you measure your growth, year over year, you should be going up.

Think long-term, and stay away from short-term tricks and tactics like I was doing.

It’s about longevity. Follow these tips, and you will have longevity.

What is keyword stuffing in SEO and how to avoid it

Often business owners listen to a podcast, read a blog post and/or see something on social media talking SEO and it grabs their attention. They think…

“That’s what I’ve should to do?! I’ve got to find the keywords that people are searching for and then I need to put them everywhere I can on my website.”

What ends up happening is that they stuff that keyword wherever they can with little regard to readability or userability. But, as you could imagine, Google are a bit smarter than that. They call this dodgy SEO technique “keyword stuffing” and it’s the wrong thing to do.

Here’s what you should be doing:

#1. Rather than optimising your website for Google first, you optimise for your user first. Just give your visitors a great experience. It makes sense when you think about it because people buy your products and services – not Google.

#2. Yes, still identify great keywords but follow Google’s best practice guide when adding them to your site. Grab their guidelines by Googling “Google Quality Guidelines”.

Or, if you prefer to get an expert to help, let me do a FREE website review of your current keywords and onpage SEO. I’ll tell you what you’re doing right (or wrong) and how get more traffic from Google.

How Google Algorithm Updates Can Get You Blacklisted | Avoid These 3 SEO Mistakes!

Google Algorithm updates can be good or bad for your website rankings. If you’re at the top of page 1, then how do you keep Google rankings?
Subscribe here to learn more of my secret SEO tips:
Find me on Facebook:
Read more on my blog:

Google continually makes algorithm updates. From Panda to Penguin to Hummingbird… the algorithm updates never stop.

So instead of worrying about each Google algorithm update, you should focus on Google proofing your site.

There are two types of SEO: black hat and white hat. Black hat SEO is doing stuff that breaks Google’s policies such as buying links.

White hat SEO focuses on putting the user first and doing what is best for them. Such as writing amazing content, internal linking, building up your social presence and even continually updating old content.

So if you want to make sure you don’t get hit by a Google penalty you should focus on:

1. Improving your time on site is critical if you want to keep Google rankings. If that number is above two minutes it shows people love it. A high time on site shows search engines that people find your site more valuable than sites with low time on site.

2. Decrease your bounce rate – if people come to your site and bounce right off it means they didn’t find what they are looking for.

So focus on reducing your bounce rate by doing things like making your design mobile friendly, having large font size and even decreasing your load time.

3. Always put the user first – from updating old content to making the user experience better to building a better product/service than your competition, you can’t take users for granted.

Google wants to rank websites that users love at the top of it’s search engine results. So focus on making people happy.

There you have it. Stop trying to manipulate Google rankings with cheap back hat techniques. Instead focus on maintaining a high-quality website that people love.
