Link Building Case Study: My #1 Strategy For 2016

When it comes to link building, there are literally dozens of strategies to choose from.

And the one from this video “Guestographics” is one of my all-time favorites.

And in this case study you’ll EXACTLY how one of my readers, Perrin, boosted his site’s organic traffic by more than 900%. Check it out.

Here’s the deal:

I probably don’t need to tell you that building links is super-important for SEO. You can modify your title tags and write great content, but if you don’t have backlinks, you’re simply not going to rank in Google.

The problem is that link building isn’t as easy as it used to be. Black hat strategies like blog commenting and article directories are long gone.

Today, you need to create and promote awesome content. When you do that, you get the type of natural links that Google rewards today.

And in this video I show you how to do it.

Specifically, you’l learn how to create a highly valuable piece of content…and promote that content so that influential bloggers and journalists will link to it.

Yes, it requires work. But if you’re willing to put in the work, there’s no reason that this strategy can’t help your link building efforts.

Exclusive 2015 SEO Client Case Study With Sean Burrows

Admittedly, a part of this case study does start out in 2014, but I didn’t think adding that into the title would make it any better. I really want to drive home the point that this video is about putting together a complete marketing strategy that does indeed involve search engine optimization, but most certainly makes the case that SEO ought never to be an end-all-be-all strategy.

Sean Burrows is Managing Director of Enliven Group, and comes from a background in interactive media consulting, web-based public relations, and search engine optimization & marketing.

He is a regular speaker at various college campuses, conventions, and private events around the United States.

In 2005, Mr. Burrows co-founded Enliven Group, an interactive media consulting firm that manages comprehensive online marketing and public relations campaigns.

Sean’s experience has taught him that the real gurus are business owners themselves. They are the experts, they are the ones in the trenches each day, and marketing agencies aren’t always the wisest choice for large or small companies.

“Wall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway.” –Warren Buffett

Sean does consulting and comprehensive strategizing for marketing departments of billion-dollar companies, and small local startups alike.

“The principles are the same, and they don’t change… they just become more true as the web continues to connect us all in deeper more real-time and intimate ways. You are what you publish, and the modern consumer’s BS meter as at an all-time high level of sophistication and sensitivity.” –Sean Burrows

Like all other forms of marketing, sales, and storytelling, Mr. Burrows asserts that content is important, but the context is paramount. His sole focus is to teach and facilitate the necessary steps to help business owners reach their potential on the balance sheet in and in longevity with their growing customer base.

“SEO isn’t the answer, and neither is Facebook. Social media agencies are going to sell you social media, SEO guys are going to sell you SEO, and billboard owners aren’t going to sell you ice cream!” –Sean Burrows

Off Page SEO Case Study: 110% More Traffic in 14-Days

It’s no secret that publishing great content helps with SEO…but it’s not enough. You also need off page SEO.

Remember: Google and other search engines pay very close attention to ranking factors that take place away from your site, especially the number and quality of your backlinks.

But with updates like Penguin making most link building strategies obsolete (or even dangerous), how can you possibly build links to your site?

The answer: The Skyscraper Technique. It’s a simple, 3-step off page SEO strategy that I’ve successfully used in a dozen different industries.

Here’s how it works. First, you find content in your industry that’s already performed well. You can look at the number of comments, social shares and links. While social shares and comments are important, we’re focused on links. Believe it or not, but some content generates a ton of Tweets and Facebook Likes and few links. You want to zero-in on content that’s acquired white hat links.

Next, it’s time to make the content you found even better. Ideally you want to create something that blows the existing content out of the water. You can improve the design, depth…or just make something more up to date. Just make sure that if you showed your content to 100 people, 95+ would agree that yours is better than the base content from step #1.

The third step of The Skyscraper Technique is link building. This is where you reach out to the people linking to the base content you found in Step #1. Tell them that you also loved the content they’ve already linked to and it’s inspired you to create something even better: Your Skyscraper Content.

That’s all there is to it. If you incorporate this strategy into your off page SEO campaigns you’ll notice a steady uptick of backlinks, social signals and traffic.
