Google Rebrands AdWords, Releases Indexing API, URL Inspector Tool & Speed Update New Details

– This week we learned that Google is going to drop the name AdWords after 18 years and switch it to Google Ads. Google also released an Indexing API, which right now only works with job posting URLs, they don’t have plans to expand it. Google Search Console added a new tool called the URL inspector tool, which is rolling out now. Google said the new Speed Update which is coming soon will grade speed on a gradual scale, which is unlike the old speed algorithm. Google says they ignore links in press releases. Google said all URLs in the Google index have a canonical URL. Google is showing “must include” in some search results snippets. Google knowledge panels can now be verified by the owner. Some Google knowledge panels are looking more and more like featured snippets. Google local pack is showing a filter for “your past visits,” also filters based on your queries which is cool. Google My Business has a new insights analytics report for subjective attributes. Google My Business said they launched performance cards, which is really old. Google sent me a indoor GPS beacon from Project Beacon. Google’s Danny Sullivan said he might work on a search engine style guide. Google AdWords added a new words and ad group shift cards to the overview page. Bing Ads is now powering their automate extensions using AI. And Danny Sullivan was profiled by CNBC about his new role at Google. That was this past week in search at the Search Engine Roundtable.

Google Algorithm Changes, Bing AMP & JSON-LD, Google & YouTube Spam & Matt Cutts

– This week we have a lot to cover, first an algorithmic change in the Google search results over last weekend throughout this whole week. Bing announced a new AMP viewer coming this summer, they also announced JSON-LD support in Bing Webmaster Tools. Google announced their latest search spam metrics, including a drop of manual actions from 9 million to 6 million year-over-year. Paul Haahr, a Google search lead talked a lot about the philosophy around Google’s search rankings. Google Search Console now lets you filter out web light traffic. The order of URLs in your Google Sitemaps file does not matter. Google Search Console fixed the crawl stats bug on Wednesday. Link spam n forums do not work well said Google. Google clarified several points around the mobile-first index. Surveys, ratings, reviews are not an organic ranking feature. Google said cache-control headers do not impact crawling. Google said hreflang in sitemaps versus HTML code are treated equally. Local SEOs are not happy with the new Google Agency Dashboard in Google My Business. Google updated their ad settings page. Google AdWords launched new shopping features including in store savings and what’s in this store. Google Local added an attribute for watching sports around the World Cup. Google is piloting an Ad Grant Agency program. Google has added a knowledge panel for doing college research. Google added a carousel for hotel searches. YouTube is fighting paid like spam and has made changes yesterday to those spam algorithms. Matt Cutts stopped by SMX to surprise us all and it was super special. Okay, guys. Today I’m going to tell you about the secret. It’s not really a secret, but sometimes people forget that growing a business fast is all about building relationships, building a team. So you can go prospect and find one customer at a time, but wouldn’t it be easier if the customers came to you, based off of relationships that you had already built?
Now let’s break this down and apply it to our own digital marketing businesses. Think about this for a minute. Who are our prospects? Who does our business serve, primarily? Primarily it’s the small business owner, right. So where can we find our prospects already gathering? Aren’t there businesses and service providers that our ideal clients and prospects already use?
So like if we were to sit down and think about who it is that are already serving the businesses that we want as customers, who would those be? Who are these service providers? It’s the B2B marketing, right. Business-to-business. So if we were to create a partnership with those B2B providers, the ones who already are serving the businesses that are our ideal prospects, it would be like we’re going after our entire prospecting list at once.
So now follow along here. Some of you might be seeing where I’m going with this, others maybe not. But it’s about to get crystal clear. We conducted a poll recently in the Rank Daddy Academy Facebook group, just to brainstorm and see what kind of businesses primarily serve businesses. Why? Because those businesses and service providers already have our prospects as customers. We just create a relationship with them, and not only do we get access to all their customers, all of our prospects, we also get an endorsement, a referral from that B2B provider. Are you getting this?
So what type of B2B do we go after, and how do we get them to share, or even promote our digital marketing service to their customers? So first off, there’s going to be business-to-business service providers that probably are not ideal to approach with this. You’ve got waste management companies or cell phone providers that wouldn’t do us any good to create a relationship with them, because they don’t have any interest in building our business. And there’s no way for us to help them propel their business.
You search waste management provider, there’s probably only one in your area. So if there’s only one, they’re already ranked at the top of Google, we can’t help them. They’re already got, they’re in their niche. So we’re looking for smaller, localized B2B providers. And there’s a lot of these out there that serve a local market. And when I say smaller, I’m not talking about like mom-and-pop. I’m talking about maybe not Office Depot, but instead, the local printing company in your market that creates business cards, and invoice forms, letterheads, stuff like that, that local businesses need to operate their business.
So in addition to this local printer with this poll showed us, we kind of weeded through them, and just a few of them, we see accountants, and CPAs, employment service companies like a temp service, web design companies, computer repair companies, networking, IT, bond issuance companies, commercial lawn care. It goes on and on, and these B2B providers exist in nearly every city in America. Think there’s a shortage of customers? No. Never. So here’s what you got to do. First, you make a list. Figure out which of these B2B providers you want to approach first. And then you’re going to spoil them.
You’re going to buy them lunch, you’re going to send them gifts, and get creative. This is worth it. It’s going to cost you time and money, but the rewards are insane. Remember, some of the biggest companies and the fastest growing companies in America use this. So you’re going to give away your SEO service and digital marketing service for free to that B2B.
