Google Algorithm Changes, Bing AMP & JSON-LD, Google & YouTube Spam & Matt Cutts

– This week we have a lot to cover, first an algorithmic change in the Google search results over last weekend throughout this whole week. Bing announced a new AMP viewer coming this summer, they also announced JSON-LD support in Bing Webmaster Tools. Google announced their latest search spam metrics, including a drop of manual actions from 9 million to 6 million year-over-year. Paul Haahr, a Google search lead talked a lot about the philosophy around Google’s search rankings. Google Search Console now lets you filter out web light traffic. The order of URLs in your Google Sitemaps file does not matter. Google Search Console fixed the crawl stats bug on Wednesday. Link spam n forums do not work well said Google. Google clarified several points around the mobile-first index. Surveys, ratings, reviews are not an organic ranking feature. Google said cache-control headers do not impact crawling. Google said hreflang in sitemaps versus HTML code are treated equally. Local SEOs are not happy with the new Google Agency Dashboard in Google My Business. Google updated their ad settings page. Google AdWords launched new shopping features including in store savings and what’s in this store. Google Local added an attribute for watching sports around the World Cup. Google is piloting an Ad Grant Agency program. Google has added a knowledge panel for doing college research. Google added a carousel for hotel searches. YouTube is fighting paid like spam and has made changes yesterday to those spam algorithms. Matt Cutts stopped by SMX to surprise us all and it was super special. That was this past week in search at the Search Engine Roundtable.

HVAC Website Spam

I want to make a comment about spam, and heating and air conditioning search engine optimization agencies.

I have just taken over this account, and I am appalled at the amount of spam that I have found on this website. In case you don’t know, spam is where you repeatedly but keyword terms on a page. Google doesn’t like that!

For instance, don’t name every city in your service area 5 times over on the same page.

Google Spam Update, SEO Tips, AdWords Tests & Christmas Workers

– This week Google may have pushed another algorithm update, this one targeting black hat link spam. Google’s Maccabees updates may have hit many celebrity web sites. Google said they hope to communicate more about algorithm updates in 2018. Google said most SEOs don’t know when unnatural links work or don’t work. Google said long term noindex directives lead to nofollow as well. Google said you should try not to experiment with SEO with Google Tase Manager. Google said hiding structured data from users is cloaking. Google said fetching content from other sites and placing it on your site is no value add. Google AdWords is testing a similar look carousel and easy checkout icons. Google is testing related searches box in image search. Google said they will keep their pre-2012 FTC commitments even though they expired. Google Maps now doesn’t allow negative reviews from current or former employees. John Mueller was working at Google on Christmas, again. The search community honored Matt McGee, Rae Hoffman Dolan, Joe Hall and Aleyda Solis this week. Google App Indexing, RankBrain, Penguin, Panda, SEO & Bing Profit

– This week I am doing the Search Video Recap from Jerusalem’s Inbal Hotel, what a beautiful view, where SMX Israel will take place this Sunday. Today I proclaimed Google App Indexing day because I launched the iOS and Android Search Engine Roundtable app with App Indexing and more – plus I covered only App Indexing topics today – please download the app for free. Google announced RankBrain, their already existing query interpretation ranking signal that has been live for months and months now. Google Penguin will launch by the end of the year, and will be real time, so you can clean your links whenever. I shared more data on my Google Panda recovery, showing now a 40% uptick in Google organic traffic to my site. Google shared more details about sneaky and unwanted mobile redirects. YouTube is doing a big SEO no-no with canonicals reverting to 301s. Google said don’t dynamically generate your robots.txt file. Google also said the “not set” in the Google Analytics SEO report is not a bug. On Google App Indexing, Google said they support multilingual apps 3 different ways, iOS apps aren’t getting the App Indexing API ranking boost yet, they have internal search operators for app content and iOS apps should show in mobile Safari now. Google AdWords celebrated their 15th birthday a few days late. Google AdWords went big on cross device conversions this week. Finally, Bing turned a profit for Microsoft, the first time since launching Bing. That was this week in search at the Search Engine Roundtable – please download our iOS And Android app.
